Diesels want long journeys
A particulate filter needs sustained higher-speed running to regenerate. A diesel used only for short urban trips will eventually block its DPF, and that is an expensive lesson. If your commute is under fifteen minutes, look at the hybrids instead.
What the inspection covers
DPF condition, EGR, turbo play and injector performance are all checked before listing, along with the usual 172 points. Anything flagged is photographed and priced into the car.
The economics of torque
For towing and for high-mileage motorway drivers, diesel remains the cheapest way to move weight. Below about 12,000 miles a year the fuel saving rarely repays the price premium.
